The Bottle and The Damage Done

DOCUMENTARY / 20 MIN

Two candid conversations, ten years apart, with Cauty's estranged uncle John – a man who has been hopelessly in the throes of alcohol addiction for much of his adult life.

The original conversation took place in 2014, at a time when John was consuming two bottles of whisky—amounting to approximately three times the threshold for severe alcohol toxicity—every day. The film received over 1 million views on YouTube, and was incorporated into Cauty's feature documentary A Royal Hangover starring Russell Brand. A decade after their last meeting, Cauty revisited his uncle to see what, if anything, had changed about his situation.

"My hopes are that other drug and alcohol addicts, people in recovery, and the loved ones of addicts will find something of use here, whether that be understanding, hope or fortitude." - Arthur Cauty

"A powerful documentary that is both emotionally challenging and deeply enlightening. The film’s raw honesty and unflinching portrayal of addiction make it a must-watch for those seeking to understand the intricacies of alcohol addiction and its impact on individuals and their families." - The Sober Curator
